Aipan
Aipan is drawn on doorsteps and walls in the Kumaon hills — white rice paste on red earth, made to welcome, to bless, to mark a day as special. Every grid, dot and lotus carries a meaning passed down by the women who painted them.
Pan-Indian
Mandala
A mandala begins at the centre and grows outward, one steady ring at a time. Painting one is less about the finished circle and more about the slow, quiet hour it takes you to get there.
Madhya Pradesh
Gond
Gond artists of central India fill animals, trees and rivers with dots and dashes — each pattern a kind of heartbeat. The paintings are folk tales told without words, in colours borrowed from the forest.
